Bio

Angel S. Harris is a staff attorney with the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û’s Capital Punishment Project in Durham, North Carolina. Prior to working at the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û, Angel was a felony trial attorney with the Calcasieu Parish Public Defender’s Office in Lake Charles, LA and the Orleans Public Defenders in New Orleans, LA. During the course of her career she has represented hundreds of men and women charged with crimes ranging from distribution of narcotics to capital murder. Angel has a B.A. in English, summa cum laude from Hampton University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Angel has strong public interest background. As a student at Hampton University, Angel served as a mentor and tutor for students in the Hampton Roads area. During her time at Georgetown University Law Center, Angel volunteered with Campaign For Youth Justice and Innocence Project. In the spring of 2008, Angel had the privilege to study at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. While studying at UCT, she volunteered with the university’s Refugee Clinic. Angel also tutored high school students in Khaylitsha, a local township in South Africa. Angel continues to be passionate about working within the community whether through outreach workshops educating the formerly incarcerated and their families or participating in speaking engagements.
