Bio

Madhuri (Madhu) Grewal was previously a federal immigration policy counsel for the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û’s National Political Advocacy Department. She worked with ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û affiliates, litigation projects, and coalition partners to advocate with Congress and executive agencies, in order to ensure that federal policies and practices related to immigration comport with the Constitution, due process, civil liberties, and human rights.

Prior to joining the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û, Grewal was senior counsel at The Constitution Project (TCP), where she focused primarily on advocacy and public education on criminal justice issues, including policing reforms, the death penalty, and the right to counsel. Previously, Grewal worked as policy counsel at the Detention Watch Network (DWN), where she managed the organization’s policy and legal advocacy to push for administrative and legislative reforms to the U.S. immigration detention and deportation system. Grewal had also worked as a law clerk in an immigration court housed in a detention facility on the U.S.-Mexico border, as a law clerk at the D.C. Superior Court, and at the Center for American Progress. Grewal is a graduate of American University Washington School of Law and the University of Michigan.
