Plans for the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û's 2008 Membership Conference are already off to a great start. With Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and David H. Souter all confirmed to speak, conference attendees will have the opportunity to hear from one-third of the United States Supreme Court.
Attendees can expect a wide variety of high caliber speakers. A few speaker highlights include:
- Justice Arthur Chaskalson, a former Chief Justice in South Africa, is a leading jurist in constitutional and human rights issues.
- Ariel Dorfman has been called a "literary grandmaster" (Time) and "one of the greatest living Latin American novelists" (Newsweek).
- John Hutson, a retired United States Navy rear admiral, attorney and former Judge Advocate General of the Navy, is a passionate advocate against torture and the abuse of prisoners in U.S. military custody.
And that's just the tip of the iceberg! We're confirming new speakers, presenters and performers every day. Conference attendees can look forward to hearing from renowned experts on civil liberties topics that have become all too familiar to us in a post 9/11 world - government surveillance, torture, the suspension of habeas corpus, and increased government intrusion into private matters - as well as first-hand accounts from ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û clients, who have fought to claim their constitutionally protected rights.

See you in Washington, June 8-10!
