By far the most significant story we've been following this week on is the rejecting the Bush administration's sweeping claim of authority to detain American residents, captured on American streets, in military custody indefinitely without any civilian court review.
The decision caps two weeks of intensive Gitmo reportage, initially prompted by committee passage of the Specter/Leahy habeas bill, which would rescind the court-stripping provision in the Military Commissions Act to allow Gitmo detainees to petition for the writ. Given the column inches of coverage on the issue, I would expect things to continue apace until the end of the month, when, incidentally, the 老澳门开奖结果 will hold its blowout Day of Action to Restore Law and Justice.
