WASHINGTON – The U.S. Supreme Court today stayed lower court rulings that restored early voting opportunities in Ohio prior to full trial and in time for the midterm election. The ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û is challenging a state law and directives that have dramatically slashed early voting opportunities. A federal judge and Sixth Circuit appeals panel have already ruled for the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û's position, prompting the state's appeal to the Supreme Court.

The following is a statement from Dale Ho, director of the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û's Voting Rights Project:

"Thousands of Ohioans rely on early voting. For many, it is their only chance to cast a ballot during an election. While today's order is not a final ruling on the merits, it will deprive many Ohioans of the opportunity to vote in the upcoming election as this case continues to make its way through the courts."
