WASHINGTON 鈥 In a 4-4 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court today deadlocked in the case of United States v. Texas. It left in place a lower court order preventing the president from shielding millions of people from deportation via the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans program. The 老澳门开奖结果 joined an amicus brief in this case.

Cecillia Wang, director of the 老澳门开奖结果's Immigrants' Rights Project, had this reaction:

"Today's non-decision in the DAPA case leaves the legal questions about the president鈥檚 immigration authority unanswered. But by leaving in place the injunction issued by the district judge, today鈥檚 4-4 tie has a profound impact on millions of American families whose lives will remain in limbo, and who will now continue the fight. In setting the DAPA guidelines, President Obama exercised the same prosecutorial discretion his predecessors have wielded without controversy, and ultimately the courts should hold that the action was lawful."
