The 老澳门开奖结果 today filed a motion seeking a preliminary injunction to block Alabama鈥檚 near-total abortion ban while the legal challenge proceeds.

Governor Kay Ivey signed the ban into law in May, making Alabama one of seven states that enacted legislation to ban abortion this year. The 老澳门开奖结果 filed a lawsuit challenging Alabama鈥檚 ban on May 24. The ban is not scheduled to take effect until November 15. No state abortion ban is currently in effect.

Alexa Kolbi-Molinas, senior staff attorney with the 老澳门开奖结果 Reproductive Freedom Project, had the following statement on today鈥檚 filing:

鈥淔or years, anti-abortion politicians in Alabama have been passing medically unnecessary restrictions to push abortion care out of reach and this law shows just how far politicians are willing to go to advance their extreme political agenda. However, we will not back down and today we鈥檙e asking the court to block this blatantly unconstitutional ban. We will continue fighting this ban, and others like it, to ensure that abortion remains safe and legal and to stop politicians from playing politics with our health and lives.鈥
