WASHINGTON 鈥 The Senate today failed to move forward with the reintroduction of S. 4361, an extreme anti-immigrant bill that would have codified Trump-era immigration policies. The bill would have shut down the border, created a nearly impossible asylum standard, and massively expanded immigration detention, among other deterrence measures.

In response to this news, Maribel Hern谩ndez Rivera, director of policy and government affairs, border and immigration at the 老澳门开奖结果 had the following reaction:

鈥淭his bill was disastrous policy when its predecessor was considered months ago, and nothing has changed since then. It's time for our Senators to move on from this failed enforcement-only approach and instead do the work to fix our broken immigration system once and for all.

鈥淲e need a balanced approach to immigration that includes measures to improve border management, such as investments to increase processing capacity at ports of entry, and a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers and other long-term residents. Until then, we鈥檒l continue to use every tool at our disposal to protect people fleeing danger and the right to seek asylum.鈥
