Facebook EEOC Complaints

Balcom v. AmeriCorps
The American Civil Liberties and the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û of the District of Columbia filed an administrative complaint with the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal volunteer service agency that operates the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps. The complaint was filed on behalf of 22-year-old Susie Balcom, a recent college graduate and two-term AmeriCorps state program alumna who received multiple offers to serve with the national program. After she completed the CNCS medical questionnaire, which included her mental health history, the offers were rescinded.

IACHR Petition for Domestic Workers Trafficked by Diplomats
The ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û, along with co-counsel the University of Chicago International Human Rights Clinic and organizations including Andolan, Adhikaar, CASA of Maryland, Damayan, and the National Domestic Workers Alliance, has been fighting to hold the U.S. accountable for the A-3 & G-5 visa programs that have enabled the trafficking of domestic workers by diplomats and other foreign officials. Currently pending before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) is a petition on behalf of six former domestic workers and three advocacy organizations alleging that the U.S. violated its human rights obligations by failing to take meaningful steps to prevent, investigate, and remedy the exploitation of migrant domestic workers by employers covered by diplomatic immunity.

E.D. v. Sharkey
On October 30, 2018, the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û Women’s Rights Project, ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û National Prison Project, ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û of Pennsylvania, the Asian Pacific Institute on Gender-Based Violence, Futures Without Violence, Just Detention International, National Alliance to End Sexual Violence, Tahirih Justice Center, and the Women’s Law Project submitted an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit supporting an immigrant detainee, E.D., who was fleeing domestic violence and sexual assault in Honduras with her son.

Boston Housing Authority v. Y.A.
In December of 2018, ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û Women’s Rights Project and the ÀÏ°ÄÃÅ¿ª½±½á¹û of Massachusetts filed an amicus brief at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court supporting a domestic violence survivor who asserted the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) as a defense to her eviction for nonpayment of rent that directly resulted from physical, emotional, and economic abuse. VAWA prohibits covered housing providers, like Boston Housing Authority, from evicting or otherwise discriminating against survivors of domestic violence for reasons caused by their abuse.
